A confirmed-subscription flow sends a verification step to an address before treating it as subscribed.
This helps prove that the person entering an address can actually receive mail there and reduces typo subscriptions and some forms of list abuse.
It does not eliminate the need for a clear unsubscribe path or appropriate consent. It is one control in the subscription lifecycle.
