howto.email does not require an account to read its documentation or use the current Domain Check tool.

Domain Check

When you use Domain Check, the domain name you submit is sent to a howto.email Cloudflare Worker. The Worker requests public email-configuration information from the open-source dmarc.mx lookup service. For some results, such as retrieving a literal DKIM record for a selector discovered by the scanner, the Worker may also perform targeted public DNS lookups.

The tool is designed for information that is already publicly available through DNS and published email-policy endpoints. Do not enter passwords, credentials, private keys, API keys, personal information, or other secrets.

Caching and lookup history

Successful Domain Check responses may be cached temporarily at Cloudflare's edge to reduce duplicate upstream requests and unnecessary load. howto.email does not currently provide user accounts or a persistent lookup-history feature.

Reports, copying, and printing

Domain Check reports are generated in your browser from the scan results already returned to the page. Copying records, downloading the interactive HTML report, and printing or saving that report as a PDF do not intentionally submit a new Domain Check request. A downloaded report contains the lookup information visible in that report, so treat the file according to your own organization's handling requirements.

Third-party infrastructure

howto.email currently relies on Cloudflare for site and Worker infrastructure and dmarc.mx for portions of Domain Check analysis. Requests handled by those services may be subject to their own operational logging and privacy practices.

Domain Intelligence Lookup

When you use Domain Intelligence Lookup, the domain you search is sent to our Cloudflare Worker and then to public data services including RDAP.org, Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS, phishunt, crt.sh, and urlscan.io. The optional official-domain comparison is performed in your browser and is not sent to the lookup API. Domain intelligence results may be cached at Cloudflare's edge for up to ten minutes.

The lookup page stores up to twelve snapshots per domain for up to twenty-five domains in your browser's local storage. These contain the domains searched, lookup times, and publicly available DNS and registration fields. You can clear saved snapshots for a domain from the tool. The site does not provide a synchronized or server-side history database for this feature.

Future changes

If analytics, persistent history, accounts, additional third-party services, or other data-collecting features are introduced, this notice should be updated to describe them.
