Calendar invitations are often transported as MIME content using iCalendar data.

The message can contain structured event information in addition to a human-readable body. Calendar clients interpret that data to offer Accept, Tentative or Decline workflows.

Because invitations arrive through email, spoofing and phishing considerations still apply. A calendar-looking message is not inherently trusted.
